Mouthing off:

Just a short bit of trivia today. The Green Bay Packers are the only major team that is in a small, small town. Green Bay is a very small town. In 1979, January to be exact, my husband was offered a job in Green Bay. We lived in Chicago area at the time. We took a drive out there for the weekend. It was January, one of the coldest ever. We had had a very big snowstorm the previous December. So you can imagine how it was in Green Bay. (this, by the way, has nothing to do w/what I was going to tell you) The motel we stayed at was by a sausage factory and I can't tell you how bad the smell was. It permeated everything. So w/the smell and the ice and snow and cold, we said "No way" . Friends of ours thought it would be great to live in G.B. with all the outdoor sports, fishing, ice skating, hunting (?) etc. etc. Really, we are not the outdoor type. Anyhow, back to my story. The Green Bay Packers got their name from a packing company who, in 1919, gave the team $500 to buy uniforms providing they would name them after them - ergo - Green Bay Packers! Now, thru the yrs the team could hardly exist as there wasn't enough money for a major team in the town of Green Bay. Wasn't like the Bears or the '9ers' (as they call the S.F. 49ers) or the Redskins. Green Bay is a very, very tiny town. So, in late 1967 they went public and sold off stock. No one person can own more than another and it is a non-profit organization. They just own a chanpion football which I think won 3 super bowls (and maybe 4, who knows). Is that not interesting???????? No????????????
